COIN OVERVIEW

The America the Beautiful Quarters program is proud to honor the Chickasaw Indian nation as part of its national parks initiative. The park depicted is the Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

The reverse image depicts the Lincoln Bridge, built of limestone and dedicated in 1909 to celebrate the centennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The bridge is the first constructed improvement in the national recreation area and a favorite scenic spot. Inscriptions are CHICKASAW, OKLAHOMA, 2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Design candidates were developed in consultation with representatives of Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

CHICKASAW NATIONAL RECREATION AREA OVERVIEW

The eponymous Native Americans were relocated from the southeastern United States to the area where the recreation area currently sits, and later sold the land to the government for its construction.

Established in 1902, the nearly 10,000 acre area preserves the forested hills of south-central Oklahoma. Seamlessly merging tradition and modernity, the park allows visitors from the turn of the 21st century to enjoy the same diversions as those at the turn of the 20th.

Per an agreement with the tribe, the park does not charge an admission of any kind.
