2013 America the Beautiful Quarters ™

Representing Ohio in the America the Beautiful Quarters program is Perr's Victory and International Peace Memorial.

PERRY'S VICTORY AND INTERNATIONAL PEACE MEMORIAL OVERVIEW

Rising 352 feet over Lake Erie, this War of 1812 memorial on South Bass Island was established to honor the Battle of Lake Erie, fought between the United States and Great Britain. At roughly 107 meters, it is the world's most massive Doric column and was constructed in Put-it-Bay, Ohio. Underneath the monument are the remains of three American and three british officers.

Visitors to the open-air observation deck on the country's fourth tallest monument are rewarded with a panoramic view of the Lake Erie Islands and the shorelines of Ohio, Michigan and Ontario. The monument began a two year closure on September 30th, 2009; thus, the new national park quarter dedicated to it can celebrate not only its history, but also its future.
