PARK OVERVIEW

Rugged, beautiful badlands, gentle prairies, cottonwood floodplains and even a petrified forest make up the 70,000 acres forever tied to Theodore Roosevelt after he first visited to hunt bison in 1883. Wildlife still abounds in the park: bison, elk, big horn sheep, and prairie dogs and 186 types of birds. Visitors come to watch the wildlife, camp, hike and take guided horseback rides in this panoramic and unique Northern Plains landscape.
