PARK OVERVIEW

George Rogers Clark is remembered as the heroic Revolutionary War commander who led a small force of frontiersmen through the freezing waters of the Illinois country to capture a British fort in 1779. The capture assured United States claims to the frontier, an area nearly as large as the original 13 states. Inside the beautiful memorial rotunda is a bronze statue of the soldier and patriot as well as murals that depict his life.
