5,678 miles from San Francisco in the Pacific Ocean are the Northern Mariana Islands, a commonwealth of the United States. Here, etched into stone plaques are the names of more than 5,000 military personnel who gave their lives during the Marianas Campaign of World War II. Also within the 133-acre park are beaches, sports fields, picnic sites, boat marinas, and a 30-acre wetland and mangrove forest.
