Kirk Gillis joined the U.S. Mint in March 2021 as the Deputy Chief Sales and Marketing Officer. In this role, he functions as the Deputy Associate Director for Sales and Marketing Directorate which has P&L responsibility for the Mint’s numismatic and bullion business units. Kirk brings over 25 years of marketing leadership experience that spans private, public, and non-profit sectors.

Prior to joining the Mint, Kirk founded, scaled, and exited two successful digital businesses. In 2008, he launched ZoomTanzania.com, an award-winning e-commerce platform currently doing business as Kupatana.com. In 2012, he opened the doors to PinPoint Africa Media, a full-service marketing agency providing digital strategy, website development, and advertising services to multinational brands doing business in East Africa including Tigo, Toyota, Barclays, Coca Cola, Samsung, Diageo, and more.

Before going into business, Kirk served as a founding member of the inaugural leadership team that launched the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF), a 501(c)(3) organization funded through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Tasked with developing and implementing a national marketing and outreach strategy to increase recreational fishing and boating participation in the U.S., Kirk served RBFF as Communications Director and Director of Marketing & Communications from 2001 to 2007.

After completing his master’s at Texas A&M University, Kirk entered federal service for the first time in 1999 as a John Knauss Marine Policy Fellow with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). In joining the Mint, Kirk returns to federal service after a 20-year hiatus. Kirk is also a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
