Background
Released on February 15, 1991, this commemorative coin honors of the 50th Anniversary of Mount Rushmore. It was unveiled at a ceremony held in Ford’s Theatre, in South Dakota.
Recipient Organization: Mount Rushmore National Memorial Society of Black Hills
Fifty percent of the surcharges collected from coin sales were to be distributed to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Society of Black Hills to assist in their efforts to improve, enlarge, and renovate the Mount Rushmore National memorial. The remaining fifty percent of the proceeds from the coin sale surcharges were to be returned to the Federal Treasury for the purposes of reducing the national debt.Commemorative Coin Surcharges

Characteristics
The obverse design on the coin features the American Eagle in flight over Mount Rushmore and six stars on the right edge.
